The school is a Community Primary and Nursery school for children aged 3 – 11.
The School
Worthington Primary was built in 1905 and was the first Council School to be erected in Cheshire. Over the years, many improvements to the building have been carried out. Most recently, we have developed a computer suite where a whole class of children can practice their Information Technology skills together. In the summer of 2002, we refurbished an existing infant classroom and during the summer of 2003, the school toilets were completely refurbished. 2005 was a very special year for the school as we celebrated our centenary. The entire school community both past and present were actively involved in the celebrations. In 2006, the school windows were replaced and a partial re-wire took place. In addition, during 2006, our ICT suite was fully refurbished.
The school is built of brick and consists of nine classes in main-school, four in the infant department and five in the juniors. There is a central hall, which serves as a dining area as well as an assembly hall. In addition there is a well-stocked library and school kitchens.
The grounds are extensive, and include an ‘outside classroom’ developed by the children with financial assistance from the school’s PTA.
A nursery was built in 1991 and occupies a self-contained site at the front of the school. There are 52 part-time places, 26 morning and 26 afternoon. The nursery is staffed by a nursery teacher and a nursery nurse and offers stimulating pre-school experiences preparing children for entry to Worthington and other local primary schools.
