The Eco-Council is in the finals for the eco-caterpillar awards. This is a competition that the industrial company Caterpillar Perkins hold every year. Last time we entered (a few years ago) we won alongside 2 other schools. We have already had to go through a few rounds to get to the finals day.
For this day we need to take a display with us to show what we have been doing. Also we have to perform a play / presentation to show what our Eco-council and school have been doing over the last few years. The finals day is on the 5th July, so wish us luck!
When a school embarks on the journey of becoming an eco-school there is a certain way we have to do things e.g. we have to do an environmental review, then the children and myself create an action plan of the things we want to achieve over the following year. This is always displayed on our eco-schools notice board in the main corridor (if ever you want to come and have a look please feel free to pop in and look at it).
As part of being an eco-school you can apply for awards –bronze, silver and then the prestigious green flag award, these awards acknowledge the work you are doing related to the school environment, recycling and other eco-related topics. We have already achieved the bronze and silver award and now I have entered us for the green flag award.
For this award we have had to fill in a detailed application form and now we are awaiting a visit from the assessors which is on the 10th of July.
For both these events we are going to try and replicate some of the fantastic work achieved during our eco-week. Therefore I am asking for a few things so we will be able to do this.
- Old bamboo canes to make some bug houses
- Plastic bags to make some recycled art work
Thank you for all your co-operation.
